We are thrilled to share a significant development that marks a triumph for Second Amendment supporters and firearms businesses nationwide. On April 7, 2025, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) announced the repeal of the Biden-era "Zero Tolerance" policy, a move that has been met with widespread approval from the firearms community.
Implemented in 2021, the "Zero Tolerance" policy, officially known as the Enhanced Regulatory Enforcement Policy, mandated the revocation of Federal Firearms Licenses (FFLs) for dealers committing certain violations, including paperwork errors and minor infractions. Critics argued that this approach unfairly targeted law-abiding gun dealers for unintentional mistakes, leading to a significant increase in FFL revocations and the loss of businesses nationwide.
The repeal of this policy aligns with President Donald Trump's directive to reassess firearms regulations enacted during the previous administration. Acting ATF Director Kash Patel played a pivotal role in this decision, emphasizing the need for fair and balanced enforcement that supports lawful firearms businesses. Patel has since been replaces by Daniel Driscoll, a former Army officer and 26th Secretary of the Army.
Additionally, Attorney General Pam Bondi has initiated a task force dedicated to upholding Second Amendment rights, signaling a broader commitment to protecting lawful gun ownership.
The repeal of the "Zero Tolerance" policy is a significant relief for firearms dealers and enthusiasts alike. It ensures that minor administrative errors will no longer result in severe penalties, allowing businesses to operate without the looming threat of license revocation for inadvertent mistakes.
For our gun club members and the broader Second Amendment community, this development reinforces our commitment to responsible gun ownership and the fair treatment of firearms businesses.
While this repeal is a positive step, it's essential to remain vigilant and informed about ongoing regulatory changes. The DOJ and ATF are currently reviewing other policies, including the Stabilizing Brace Rule, and revising the guidelines for determining who is considered "Engaged in the Business.”
We encourage all members to stay engaged, participate in discussions, and support organizations that advocate for our rights. Together, we can continue to uphold the principles of responsible gun ownership and ensure that our voices are heard in shaping fair and balanced firearms policies.
