When you are planning to head to the gun range, what you wear will have a significant effect on how safely and accurately you shoot. While the gun range isn’t a fashion show, there are certain things you will want to consider when dressing for the range.
For shirt selection, you will want to choose a comfortable short or long-sleeve shirt to allow for a good range of motion. You will want to avoid spaghetti straps and v-neck shirts as hot brass casings are being ejected from the firearms.
As far as pants go, you will want something comfortable and strong, especially if you wear a holster. A good belt should also be worn if you plan on holstering, as it will help with the stability of the holster. If you want to wear shorts, cargo shorts are a good choice as they provide plenty of storage. Athletic shorts, sweatpants, and tight jeans should be avoided if possible.
When it comes to shoes, any closed toes shoes should be fine as long as they are in good condition. Shoes that provide ankle support are recommended to help move around when training in more tactical situations.
Lastly, you will want the proper safety gear to protect your eyes and ears. Required by every gun range, ear protection, and eye protection should be in your range bag at all times. You will want eye protection that is comfortable and does not obstruct your view of your target. For ear protection, you will need to determine if in-ear or over-ear is most comfortable for your training.
